Film Review:- King Kong

Film Review:- King Kong The movie King Kong (1933 – Merian Cooper, Ernest Schoedsack) had a great social, creative and cultural impact upon release, become what is considered the first Block Buster movie of the golden age in cinema. However, in recent years the movie has come under scrutiny for its portrayal and semiotics of black people in society. Its release lines up with many social changes and scenes in the movie point to idea and fears of the people making the movie. Because of these facts I will elaborate on in the coming essay I explain how a technical masterpiece became problematic in the eyes of modern society.   There is a lot social context that makes King Kong’s release problematic, due to the relatively recent abolishment of slavery, large amounts of black people where moving away from the countryside plantations into the city. This made many city dwellers afraid of a change in their lives making. This can be seen in figure1 a front cover of The New Yorker in 1938

Reflective statement 'What if Metropolis'

Reflective statement 'What if Metropolis' I found this project enjoyable however i feel that the changes to the start of this project, and the lack of artist research and visual development, made the start of the project slow and less enjoyable. I do like having choice of our concept art, because of this we have choices on if we wanted to make things easier or harder for ourselves depending on if we wanted to challenge ourselves. I felt the start of this project was slow however that may have been due to me having a clear image of the scene in my head and not needing to plan and figure out the scene i=on paper. To make my render better i would like to have used better materials in Maya, maybe using substance painter to create photo-realistic textures. In any case creating a better consistency between materials would be better, especially considering that the stage on my scene appears to be in a different style to the other materials in the scene. In the future i will need to

'What If Metropolis' Travelogue Diomira As you crest over the rolling green hills that nest the city your heart and mind are torn as you lay your eyes upon the city of Diomira for the first time. Its bubbling silver domes pull your mind into thoughts of the future, of the cities advancements and mechanical marvels. Where as the pseudo Ancient adornment that dress the roads as they curve and dance around these structure pull the heart into the cities history. As one walks these roads the material underfoot often changes, Parts of the path restored to a near perfect visual. Thou the Look is the same, being different in material unmasks the hidden work done by the city. Along the path statues and pillars line both sides telling of the cities history. Old gods, New Gods and all alike stand posed and poised along the paths. Some made from a variety of materials however most made from bronze, With Escalating oxidisation as you head closer to a dome. Cartoon Ball Lotte Reiniger: Lotte Reiniger was a German animator known for pioneering silhouette animation. She used and helped develop the first multi-planar camera. A tool used to create multiple layers when making a cut out animation. Her animations where all monochrome ranging throughout the grey scale depending on how far back the layer was in a shot. She is most well known for making "The Adventures of Price Achmed" thought to be the oldest surviving feature-length animation. Don Hertzfeldt: Dom Hertzfeldt is an american animator and filmmaker. His animations are often digital using modern animation processes. His style is very comic strip-esk however many of his animations wander away from the stander child friendly direction the style might suggest. His animated series REJECTED can be quite dark and self-reflective.

Reflective Statement

Reflective Statement I think that over the time given to me i did a reasonable job in executing the brief that was given to me. I managed to fulfil all the necessary criteria of the brief naturally while fulfilling the main aspect of the brief being the 3 digital paintings. I think my execution of the painting could have been better if i used more techniques i now know how to do throughout the whole process and not from the point i learnt them forward. I think my time thumb-nailing and researching the texts given gave me a better understanding of the initial creative process, however stubbornness and my own creative mind led me to creating the first images my brain came up with when given the brief. To improve this project i would spend more time thumb-nailing all the cities in a looser and more creative way before picking the city i wanted to do. focusing more on elements of the city and less on the composition of the paintings. I think this would make the aspects of the cities mo
