Minor Plan

Minor Plan

Planning out each entry of the journal, this will help me figure out what's going to be needed for each page. Once I know this  will be able to start accruing assets to make the journal when major starts or even before hand depending.

The Field Journal of William McManus

  • - Events introduction

  • - Bio and equipment list

  • - Day 1, Salt flats heading to waterfall finds small semi-aquatic bipeds in the pool

  • - Climbs to plateau finds grass lands, finds large quadruped, and decides to move with herd.

  • - Follows river meeting Long legged Quadruped and medium biped

  • - Water animal living in oasis

  • - Oasis is attacked by eyeless quad

  • - Head toward volcano and encounters a large eyeless ape

  • - 3 smart large bone creatures block exit as a I go into volcano

  • - Do not go into the volcano there is a big insect in there.

  • - I am at the top and see a large creature in the distance making huge tracks in the salt flats.

Entry 1 explains what has led to this situation, The Events of The Endeavors last days as well as the landing and naming of the planets.

  • +Drawing of the endeavor

  • +View outside escape pod

  • +Escape pod plans

Entry 2 is an equipment list; explanation of the planet as can be seen. A picture of the Salt flats, planning to head towards the waterfall.

  • +Equipment plans

  • +Environment painting

  • +Distress beacon

Entry 3 arriving at the base of the waterfall and seeing the first creature, a bipedal semi-aquatic creature looking a bit frog like.

  • +Creature Bipedal Semi-aquatic

  • +Waterfall pool

Entry 4 after spending a few days enjoying the work William does, and finally fixing N.E.D. A plan is put in motion to

  • +Plans for NED

  • +Ned Renders

  • +Vine Drawings

Entry 5 at the top of the waterfall is a herd of large rhino like quadruped. From this position William can see the river that heads towards a volcano where he decides he needs to plant the rescue become so it will be able to reach his fleet if he is not too deep into unknown space.

  • +Rhino Quad Designs

  • +Environment drawing

Entry 6 As William made his way along the river, he saw creatures standing up in the water. He did not realise the length of these creatures' legs and as such nearly drowned trying to cross the river himself. The tall quadrupeds are evolved similarly to giraffes but use water to hide from predators.

  • +River and Plant drawing

  • +Tall Quad drawings

  • +Rest area drawing and plant close look

Entry 7 After finding some rest in the shade of one of the large trees that follow the river William awoke to large crashing sounds as kangaroo sized bipeds crashed into the tree’s causing them to leak fluids which is edible. Following their movements brought me to the oasis.

  • +Biped Designs

  • +Oasis Environment designs Day and evening

Entry 8 The oasis is attacked by a competing evolutionary chain looking worm origins. The Skin covered Eyeless quad. Chased off most animals and drove William into the Rocky Mountains

  • +Worm Quad

  • +Volcano and hill drawing

Entry 9 similarly to the eyeless quad a large ape like creature resides in the soot of the volcano, a dumb creature that is very primal.

  • +Large ape design in environment

Entry 10 further up the mountain William encounters 3 bone creatures all similarly looking but each unique. He only gets pictures of their heads. He heads into the mouth of the volcano.

  • +3 creature busts

Entry 11 The Volcano has a large insect in in now nicknamed mother for the scariest thing know to him. The volcano got him to a high enough point to set up the beacon and has amazing scenery.

  • +Insect Creature

  • +Beacon overlooking environment

Entry 12 Again William was woken up to a large rumble sound, instead he awoke to the sound of a large titan sized create walking in the space beyond the flats. Its immense size creating lanes in the flats beyond the volcano.

  • +Beacon overlook with tall creature

  • +Tall creature sketch.

Tool Kit 2: Depth of Field

Tool Kit 2: Depth of Field This tutorial came at the perfect time for me as I was already messing around with depth of field in test scenes trying to understand it. This tutorial made it a lot clearer how to use it and how powerful it is as a system in Arnold. There is a lot of functionality in the Arnold camera and as such there is a lot of renders below to show each of the settings. First is the Filter map a system that works as a sort of vignette to the camera. A well as a load of setting to do with the shape of the blur including aperture blades as well as aperture aspect ratio. These can creating interesting effects if used in a stylistic manner. The main settings in the tutorial where Focus distance and Aperture size as there control how much of the scene is in focus and where in the z axes this area sits. Filter Map. Depth of Field 1. Aperture Blades : 3. Depth of Field 2.

Major Creature 4 Texturing

Major Creature 4 Texturing The texturing process is one I enjoy and feel confident in because of this I was able to sit through the process in a few days and generate the outcome. I came back to these textures a few days later to darken the textures over all once I saw then in Arnold. I also increased the level of dirt in the textures as they looked to clean.

Tool Kit 2: Physical Sky

Tool Kit 2: Physical Sky In this tutorial I learnt about the physical sky in Arnold and how it can be used to easily mimic time of day when rendering exterior shots for animations. Using a variation of elevation, Turbidity, intensity and Azimuth you can create the different angles of sky light you would see in real life. Other settings that can be used to push a stylistic approach include sun tint, sky tint and sun size. These can be used to create strange effects that are stylised and aren't meant to look photo real. Day1. Mid Day. Morning/Evening. Foggy Day. Stylised Lighting.
